Okay. We’re not actually going to put beauty products in a juicer. But we are going to look at beauty products that made me think of green juice while I was pulling out ingredients to make one. Buckle in, everyone! This is going to be a long (fun) post.
How I make a mean green juice:
4 cups any combination of kale, spinach, chard, romaine, dandelion greens
3 stalks celery
1 apple (choose granny smith if you’re concerned about sugar)
1/2 lemon, peeled
1″ ginger (or the size of the top section of your thumb)
This will make about 24fl.oz. for 2-3 servings. I load in the ginger because I love the taste. From time to time, I have added two more small apples and the other half of the lemon and ended up with a green lemonade.
Why do I drink this? I’ve grown so acclimated to the taste that I crave it. And to be honest, I have an autoimmune thing, and after three mornings of green juice, my acute symptoms subside significantly. But this ain’t a holistic health blog, so let’s get on to the products!
Leafy Greens Beauty
What I Have:
Youth to the People – click to find out about their philosophy and ingredients profile. I adore the packaging. The font choices, the container shapes, and the packaging materials all make me happy to put these products on my shelf. Even their travel sizes are high-quality glass (which I can recycle!). My only gripe with this brand is the “Age Prevention” title for the duo I have. We are all going to age, no matter what we put on our face. Fear mongering is the wrong message for a natural brand. Perhaps “Supple Skin” or “Damage Remedy” or “Nutrition Boost”? Those give us something to look forward to, not visions of Sisyphus pushing a boulder up a mountain.
Age Prevention Moisture Cream
This moisturizer is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. Major selling points for me are a vegan formulation, no silicone ingredients, botanical derivatives, and the super-hydrator: hyaluronic acid. It has minimal scent. I’d describe it as a little bit herbaceous and a little bit cucumber. When I put on this light, fluffy cream at night, I wake up with supple, bouncy, happy skin.
Age Prevention Cleanser
I’ve yet to try this because I was experimenting with micro-exfoliants as my second cleanse when I bought this mini duo. It is divisive in the beauty community. I’ve heard some say it’s reminiscent of hand soap and hard to rinse. I’ve heard others say that it is moisturizing and doesn’t leave skin tight and angry. I think I could work around the hard-to-rinse issue. Stay tuned for a cleansers review.
Youth to the People products meet Sephora’s renewed Clean At Sephora criteria.
When you spot our Clean seal, you can be sure we’ve checked that this brand’s product is made without the ingredients you told us you’d most like to avoid.
Clean at Sephora™ is formulated without:
Sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehyde, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, Triclosan, Triclocarban. All skincare, hair, and makeup brands with the Clean Seal have less than one percent of synthetic fragrances.
What I Want to Try:
Briogio Superfoods Shampoo & Conditioner Hair Pack
I was first attracted to the packaging. I admit it. Putting these in bottles that look like green juice is on trend, adorable, and attractive. I’ve seen bloggers with these for weeks, and I am an impressionable person. Briogeo says this combo “quenches parched strands, and help deliver vital daily nourishment to hair and scalp.” Sold!
Eminence Organic Skin Care Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Serum
Did you know that Vitamins C, Vitamins E, and Ferulic Acid have a synergistic relationship when added to skincare? That’s why you’ll see them grouped in quality Vitamin C products. Everyone loves
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, but it’s $166! Although you only get a bit of a price break with Eminence at $110, I’d still like to try it.
Cucumber Beauty Products
What I Have:
Kiehl’s Cucumber Herbal Alcohol-Free Toner
This is a perfectly acceptable toner. It has some solid ingredients like allantoin, aloe, and cucumber fruit extract which is supposed to soften the skin. I won’t repurchase it because it has camphor, and that isn’t a product I want on my face anymore. Plus Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner is my absolute favorite moisturizing toner, and I’d be hard-pressed to find something that can replace it.
Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask and Cucumber Detox Hydra-Gel Eye Patches
I don’t have anything positive to say about either of these except you’d fare better if you have oily skin. I have dry skin and thusly didn’t find these particularly moisturizing. In fact, the eye patches burned when I put them on, and I had to remove them. They also don’t smell like cucumber.
Farmacy Deep Moisture Hydrating Coconut Gel Mask
Farmacy sheet masks are, so far, my favorite sheet masks of all time. They fit well, they plump the skin, and they feel heavenly if you put them in the fridge first. There is quite a bit of serum left over in the package, too. Three ideas on how to use it: buy those serum-free sheet masks and soak them in the leftover serum and save for another day; or you could pat the excess on other body parts (neck, decolletage, arms); or save it as your serum step in your skincare routine for the rest of the week. This product is also part of the Clean at Sephora group.
Celery Beauty Products
What I Want to Try:
Farmacy Firming Hydrating Coconut Gel Mask
I’ve not yet tried this one, but read above for my experience with the cucumber variety.
Davines Dede Shampoo and Conditioner
For swimming this summer, I need a gentle everyday shampoo and conditioner. Davines is so attractive to me: cool sustainable packaging? Check. Minimalist typefaces? Check. Sophisticated formula? Check!
Lemon Beauty Products
What I Have:
Neogen Bio-Peel+ Gauze Peeling Lemon
First, let’s start with how attractive Neogen products are. Secondly, these work wonderfully. They are little beauty finger mitts that have two sides: one side is gauze and a little rougher than the other side. I like to gently (gently!) buff with the rougher side and then follow with the softer to wipe away any dry skin that may have lifted. You rinse off after 20 minutes. Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes I don’t rinse this off. My face can take a lot of chemical exfoliation! Don’t be like me. Follow the directions to smooth, bright skin.
Tony Moly I’m Real Brightening Lemon Sheet Mask
I love Tony Moly’s packaging choices. The colorful illustrations of the I’m Real line totally Instagram-able. I’ve not tried this particular “flavor” yet, but the others I’ve tried are good for a jolt of moisture.
LanoLips Lemonaid Lip Treatment
Once I discovered that my lips like lanolin instead of petrolatum or beeswax, life has been smooth sailing. With a jaunty, candy-lemon scent, Lemonaid is the hard-hitter of the LanoLips products for when your lips need just a little more healing and protection.
Apple Beauty Products
What I Have:
innisfree Apple Juicy Lip & Eye Remover
This is my favorite makeup remover. It has no taste, which is important to me with that kind of product when I’m smearing it around my mouth.
innisfree Apple Juicy Deep Cleaning Foam
It smells like sour apple candy. And regardless of its performance, that makes it delightful in my book. It’s a cleanser. It cleans. Nothing special outside the scent and lovely texture.
Both of these are a little hard to find now. I believe they’ve been reformulated into the Apple Seed range at innisfree. You may get lucky on Amazon or eBay
LanoLips 101 Ointment Green Apple
The Green Apple 101 Ointment comes in a set exclusive to Net-a-Porter along with the peach and strawberry varieties. Lano is my all-time favorite balm.
What I Want to Try:
Kocostar Apple Slice Mask
This isn’t your typical sheet mask. There are stylized apple slices soaked in serum that you place on the appropriate part of your face. You could multi-mask with these and other Kocostar slices. You may put one kind of slice on your blemishes, one on areas that need brightening and another on an area that needs extra moisture.
Tony Moly Red Apple Hand Cream and Tony Moly Mini Green Apple Lip Balm
Why do I want this? For the packaging only. It’s adorable. And that’s undebatable.
Does anyone remember when Tony Moly made a green apple hand cream? If I recall, it was a chemical exfoliating cream for hands. I can’t find this item anywhere anymore.
Ginger Beauty Products + An Interloper
What I Have:
First Aid Beauty Ginger & Turmeric Vitamin C Jelly Mask
I received this item in a Sephora Play! Box. Comments rave about it on the Beauty Insider Community boards on Sephora’s website. I am working through other masks at the moment so I’ll have to wait a bit.
What I want to Try:
The Body Shop Ginger Scalp Care Shampoo
Any mention of scalp care and I’m there. I think recently western brands have been moving towards this kind of marketing (Grow Gorgeous, Oribe, Briogeo, etc.). But K-Beauty brands have always been about healthy scalp = healthy, full hair.
Wait a minute?! Isn’t that Tony Moly Mask Ginseng and not Ginger?
Yes. But I liked the package, so I put it in the photo. Although both grow underground, ginger is a rhizome and ginseng is a root. Do you want to know more about Ginseng and its role in skincare? Read Fifty Shades of Snail’s post about it!
Also, Sugarfina (photo below from Sugarfina.com) makes green juice gummy bears. They come in three sizes. The little guy comes in a 7-day set where you “drink” one bottle a day.
This post is not sponsored. All beauty products that I mention having were purchased by me. See Site Info above for details.
Well, that’s it. Happy juicing! What are your favorite fruit and veggie-based beauty products?
