Drunk Elephant | Use It Up Challenge

I like mini beauty products, okay? I admit there’s an issue. And with the heart of a True Collector, I hunt these minis until I get as close as I can to complete a product line. I’ve done this with Herbivore, REN, Sunday Riley, and a few others. Today, we’re going to talk about Drunk Elephant and my Use-It-Up Challenge.

My Issues | A Use-It-Up Challenge Preamble

Umm Baby Beauty wrote the most excellent post outlining how to use up your beauty products. Please read 10 Tips | How I Finished 300 Beauty Products In One Year. Each point spoke to me personally in a way that no other blogger had before. It almost reads like a personality quiz. My most significant issues are (these are brief paraphrasings of her points):

1 – not finishing things I open
2 – rotating my products too often
3 – not reapplying products when it’s appropriate to do so
4 – scrimping (she means not using something out of fear it will run out)
5 – saving things for a special occasion (that may never come!)
6 – buying new products before finishing old ones
7 – not giving a product a fair shot (only using it a couple of times before moving on)

Feel free to share your numbers in the comment section below!

My Goals

Aside from decluttering my stash, I want to see an overall skin improvement. I want clear pores, no flaking around my nose, lightened sun spots, eradication of post-inflammatory pigmentation, some help with my anemia-induced eye circles, and to keep my fine lines precisely that: fine.

I also want to see if Drunk Elephant’s products work best when used together. This claim should be interesting. Stay tuned for a review after my challenge completion!

What I Have

The photo above looks like a dumped-out bag of The Littles . But I did not purchase that set. I probably would have if it had been available on Sephora at the time. But, hey it is now! A good number of the 13 items you see were free promo items from Sephora. A couple more were in Sephora Favorites sets (Protini is available in the Summer on the Fly set right now). And six of them were outright purchased: the NightBright Duo, the Rise + Glow Duo, and the Hit It Off Duo.

Pictured at the top of the post:

  • B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Gel
  • Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanse
  • C-Firma™ Day Serum
  • C-Tango™ Multivitamin Eye Cream
  • Lala Retro™ Whipped Cream
  • Protini™ Polypeptide Cream
  • T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Night Serum
  • T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™
  • Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30
  • Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil

I already know I like the Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil and the B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Gel (read a mini-review about that one here).

What I’m Missing

For the sake of my completionist tendencies, let’s look at the Drunk Elephant products I don’t have.

The Peekee Bar and The JuJu Bar – which is fine because I’m not keen on bar soaps on my face. I may try the mini duo one day.

The Lippee Balm – I have enough balms. Enough. And since this is a localized product, not having it will not derail my experiment.

The Shaba Complex Eye Serum – this was never presented as a Sephora Promo, and it isn’t available in any set at the moment. I’ve no interest in investing in a full-size of this.

Umbra™ Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 – my goodness! That is a mouthful. I’m not on the market for a sunscreen. I’ll use the tinted one and see how I get along with it.

What May Cause An Issue

I try to follow a skincare layering technique, so I plug and play various skin care items into the following categories:

Oil Cleanser
Second Cleanse
Hydrating or pH Balancing Toner
Actives (some combo of Vitamin C, AHAs, BHAs, and retinol)
Eye Treatment
Moisturizer and/or Oil
Masking (done weekly or less)

So, my immediate concern is there’s no oil cleanser. I swear by the two-step cleaning method. Also, I need a toner.  I’ll try to do without.  If I run into any trouble during my project, I’ll have to add a product or two.  I’ll put my routines in my stories on Instagram.

Alright! It’s off to the races! Are there any skincare lines you want to use up or make a sizeable dent in this month?  Have you used any of these and have a review you’d like to link? Sound off in the comments below!
